In celebration of the European Data Protection Day - Some interesting facts about the DIN standard on data destruction

The DIN 66399 series of standards

This has been in existence since 2012 - DIN 66399 "Office and data technology - Destruction of data media". This series of standards thus replaced DIN 32757 which was in force until then, and is divided into three parts:

The first part deals with the basics of data medium destruction and the description of the terms used in the DIN. Part 2 describes the requirements for the machines used to destroy data media based on the determination of the protection requirements and the assignment of protection classes. The last part, part 3 of the DIN is not an official standard of the German Institute for Standardization, but a specification. It describes the technical and organizational requirements for the process of data carrier destruction. The aim is to destroy information carriers on which information covered by data protection requirements is present in such a way that the reproduction of the information is impossible or at least effectively impossible.

Your route to the correct destruction of data media

First of all, the data to be destroyed must be classified accordingly on the basis of the three protection classes. Based on this classification, the required security level and thus the concrete security measures (e.g. particle size) to be implemented for the destruction are determined.

Irrespective of the type of the protection class, security level or the type of data media to be processed, our tailor-made shredding solutions provide secure destruction of your data in accordance with the latest DIN standard 66399.
